I’ve known this beautiful bride and her lovely little sister since their years in high school. It was so unreal getting them ready for the bride’s wedding.

Getting ready for the two-day celebration was nothing short of perfect; A serene start at the family house in a room filled with sunlight and music.

The bride was stunning for both her Hindu and her modern western wedding celebrations. Her makeup was dramatic but not overpowering. We focused on a soft winged contour for the eyeshadow and bronzing blush paired with coral tones for the face. She was just stunning.

I have such fond memories of this bride. Being a part of her big day simply topped them off. Thank you for having me as your makeup artist!

She is amongst many of the brides that I’ve kept in touch with following the wedding. She’s so kind, fun and relaxed, which is precisely how getting ready for her special day was: fun and relaxed.

The makeup look that she wanted was timeless: a subtly smoky eye with burgundy lips. Eyeshadow was carefully blended layer by layer keeping it soft. Lipstick was painted on with a brush, with a nude rather than red lipliner base, again to keep it soft.

The bridal party, also so kind and relaxed, trusted me and my assistant to select a look that we thought suited them best. Everyone was beaming with happiness. Such a beautiful day.

Thank you letting me share in that happiness!

Xoxo ❤️

one of 2012’s holiday trends is metallic jewel-toned smoky eyes paired with nude lips. the karl lagerfeld for shu uemura collection has the perfect makeup items to create this look. i used the smoky velvet palette and two of the lipsticks (parisienne pink and celebrity beige) to create a very wearable holiday look. a fun holiday look is incomplete without lashes of course! i used the karl for shu mini lashes to add that perfect accent to my eyes.

parisienne pink – second from the right (a cool baby pink); celebrity beige to the far right (a slightly coral beige – my personal favourite for my skin tone; i’m 564 medium light sand)

karl for shu mini lahes! so cute with little crystals on the band

here’s how to create the look:

and here’s the finished look!:

this is with the parisienne pink lipstick. the blush is from the palette as well and applied using brush 15: pat in circular motion for a natural flush of colour

here’s the celebrity beige shade. i think it really compliments asian skin tones. the slight coral brightens up the shade for healthy looking lips (as opposed to other beige or nude lipsticks which can make us look pale and sickly!)

have fun experimenting with the amazing karl lagerfeld for shu uemura palettes! so many possible combinations. the eyeshadow textures are so smooth and easy to blend; it’s so easy to create very wearable or very dramatic looks.

i had the pleasure of being the makeup artist for linda and her lovely bridesmaids in november of 2011. when i met linda and her sister for the first time for her makeup and hair trial, she wanted very natural makeup since she normally doesn’t wear any at all. later on, her sister convinced her to go for something more dramatic and i’m so glad she was open to the idea.

natural makeup is always so lovely for brides, but that doesn’t mean that smoky eyes shouldn’t be worn on the wedding day. with the right makeup products, you won’t need to worry about smudging if you happen to turn on the waterworks! i used shu uemura black painting liner which is waterproof once dry.

for linda’s makeup, i used a mix of black, grey and silver makeup. and of course, i used my go-to eyeshadow m dark brown 895 to warm it all up. i use this shade with almost all makeup looks that i create.

linda has very fine and thin hair and she wanted some serious volume for her wedding day. so for her hair, i curled it with a straightening iron to ensure the curls stayed all day long, i backcombed her entire head to add volume then brushed and pinned it all to the side.

for the bridesmaids, to go with their pewter dresses, i chose champagne eyeshadows.

here’s a video done by talented cinematographer vladimir druts. check out some of his work; he does a wide range of work: from weddings, to documentaries to fashion cinematography.

see below for a list of shu uemura eyeshadows used to create the bride and the bridesmaids’ looks.
